Question:

Volunteerism for children?

Hi, does anyone have any ideas for ways to involve young children (ages 3-9) in volunteerism? I thought of taking them to visit seniors at a senior's home, or doing something with recycling... I have a small daycare and would love suggestions. Thanks!

  1. At the senior center, they could sing songs--not from new movies, more like "Jesus Loves Me" or "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain." Some will be shy and having something prepared to do will help them until they warm up.

That park idea was great. It should make them more careful about how they treat public spaces, which is always good.

I did this sort of thing with my own preschoolers and, now in their 20's, they're still volunteers.

  2. How about cleaning up a local park?  That would be great.  They could recycle items they find so they can do 2 things at once.

I think it is wonderful that you are trying to teach them volunteerism so early.  Keep up the great work.
