Volunteers set their own stage at Honda Classic
On one hand, where professionals are busy setting their stage at the Honda Classic, volunteers are no further behind.
All of them have set their own stage that adds greater excitement for the oldies to enjoy at Palm Beach.
One important person among the volunteers is Sandy Hicks, who has been associated with the event prior to his residence at the PGA National Resort and Spa.
Hicks, who has been supervising security functions in the event to ensure that the crowd does not get out of control, admits that he has never seen the crowd go as mad after watching Woods.
The legendary golfer participated in the event to tee it off on Thursday. He further added that the second largest fan following award can easily be given to the South African golfer Ernie Els.
Winner of multiple golf events, Els has been able to make his own prominent position in the mainstream of golf.
In addition to this, Hicks has also been quite positive about the people who love to see the current US Open Champion and Irish golfer Rory McIlroy.
This can further be endorsed by another resident of Palm Beach, John Walker.
According to Jupiter resident, Walker, over 500 people were present just to see the 22-year-old tee it off on the opening day of the event.
The opening day also featured another close contemporary and winner of FedEx Cup, Kyle Stanley. “It looked like a Sunday afternoon,” said Walker.
It is important to mention here that the arrangements related to the management and careful supervision of people is a crucial job.
Each year people are hired for this job, but despite heavy recruitment, the need of volunteers still remains as prominent as ever. Many of the volunteers, for the fulfilment of this purpose, are as young as 8 years only.
Another onlooker of the game, Marshal Charley Hlavin, a Sebastian resident said that it is really exciting and entertaining to see their favourite players perform right in front of them.
Also, some of the volunteers’ assigned positions at different holes say that they are respected by the people.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that their job is just not to control people, but also to ensure that they do not engage in any activities that have been prohibited by the organising authorities.
