This car most likely has a 0280000561 ECU,which can cause a slew of driveability conditions like you explained. These are not cheap, so if you could locate a good used one to borrow or buy to eliminate that possibility, it could save you alot of time. I've been where you are with parts replaced needlessly,and major frustrations, only to find the ECU is failing. It's not a bad idea to carry a spare ECU in the trunk. They are easy to replace(10 min.) with a phillips screwdriver. The ECU is located behind front pass.side kick panel. I know you spent lots of money, but these 1989 and 1990 240's run very well and rust very slowly. I currently have 3-"89"s and 2- "90"s amongst wife and kids with 200,000-350,000 miles. You need to find a good knowledgeable 240 loving expert with lots of good used parts.(they do exist) FCP Groton is a good source for new parts which are usually inexpensive. I hope this helps.
