The champion at the prize distribution ceremony is presented with a golden jacket and a beautiful trophy. Total prize money sanctioned by the sponsor is US$3 million. This is an attractive amount as all the players will be eyeing for the top spots.
The tournament will be highlighted by notable players. Ireland’s Padraig Harrington is already in the spot light for winning the tournament. He is a three-time major championship winner and will be hoping to fulfil the expectations of his fans. Although,
Harrington is not in the best of forms, he still has high hopes for a good performance.
Along with Harrington, Sergio Garcia will also be among the notable ones to win the championship. Garcia has yet to register a win under his belt since 2008. It has been an up and down year for the player, who has showed signs of improvement. The Spaniard
has made the cut in all the tournaments he has played this year.
China top ranked player, Liang Wenchong will be the local favourite for winning the championship. All eyes will be set on him as he can be a challenge for his opponents. Wenchong is a seasoned player and enjoys playing competitive golf. He still has some
great memories of this course. The Chinese player enjoys the course's conditions also.
The 32-year-old Wenchong secured a victory last year here at this course. It was the Thailand Open where he successfully won the tournament. He played exceedingly well during all the four rounds and finished with a total score of 18-under par.
Harrington after playing the practice round said, "I like from a mental standpoint visualising holding the trophy. If I'm in contention I'll visualise myself holding it. I was just picking it up there to help with the weight and feel of it so I can visualise
myself with it on Sunday even more.”
This is once again going to be a field full of top ranked players from Europe and Asia. This event is also co-sanctioned by OneAsia.
Y.E. Yang will be hoping for title defence. He will start this tournament as the defending champion and is looking for making history. Yang is also another player who has a single major championship win in his career. Last year, he won this championship
by a good margin of two shots over Rhys Davies and Stephen Dodd. Yang had a four day score of 15-under par and was impressive with his powerful hitting.
Ryder Cup winning captain Colin Montgomerie is also among the probables. He will be hoping for some glory in his career as he will battle hard on the field from tomorrow, Thursday. Montgomorie has been playing since a while on the European Tour and knows
about the aspects of the game.
The four day championship will tee off from tomorrow as some promising golf will be seen by the top contenders. Certainly, the conditions will be a challenge for all the players.
