Does anyone have any advice on purchasing this car? I love Volvo's, but my husbad says they are too expensive to fix. Please give me any personal experiences....

  1. avoid Audi, Volvo, Jeep, Jaguar, Land Rover

parts and service are too expensive

reliability is lacking, will cost more to own than others cars

  2. Don't get me wrong, the S60 is a good car. But, considering Volvo's cache for safety, the S60 really isn't too safe.

It is safe, but if you buy something like an Infiniti G35, Audi A4, Acura TL, Lexus IS, or BMW 3-Series, you can incorporate safety into a more fun driving experience.

In terms of reliability and cost repair, it will be high, but not nearly as high as Audi's or BMW's. From experience, around 50,000 Miles, when the warranty ends, these cars get expensive to fix. For instance, a part that broke on my old 2001 A4 cost me $1400 to get fixed. A freind with a 2003 Nissan Xterra had the same problem and got it fixed for about $160. My mom had a 2003 BMW 3-Series a couple years back. She got a $4500 Repair Bill for a Sunroof Motor, and Various other Little Repairs.

The good thing about buying a Lexus is that most of the models you can take to a Toyota Dealer and get the Toyota Parts for Cheaper. I am not sure if that goes as well as Acura and Honda, but the Acura TL and TSX have remained quite reliable.

The only experience I have with an S60 is an Enterprise Rental Car 2 Years Back. -Sorry

    Good Luck

  3. Close to expensive timing belt time. They are not as good as 80 model Volvos.Computer glitches and sensor problems.

  4. My 2002 Volvo S60 has been flawless.  I had the same concerns and heard all the stories about how expensive all Eurpoean cars are to fix. And that is true. They are better engineered cars and they cost more to repair.

But I have yet to need any major repair on my 2002 Volvo since I bought it.  I keep the oil changed, the brakes replaced and the tires are new, but any car needs those items.  Our Volvo drives great, (better than the Cadillac) is decent on gas and has been very reliable.

I would recommend a Volvo for their safety and their quality.

  5. They are a bit more expensive to fix in general. But over time, that evens out. They're good cars.
