Volvo World Match Play Championship: Brandt Snedeker dominates Pool McCormack group in the first round
Pool McCormack group player, Brandt Snedeker, won in the first round of the Volvo World Match Play Championship on Thursday.
The 31-year-old American displayed an amazing performance at the Spanish site of the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía.
He played the round against Thomas Bjorn and competed well till the end of the day. Snedeker started the round with a birdie and amazed the spectators for making three consecutive birdies.
Then he scored a par shot and again made two birdies on the 5th and 6th hole. He took an early lead over his opponent and secured his domination by making two more birdies on the 9th and 10th hole.
“It's been weird,” Snedeker said. “It's been a long couple of days but it's worth it to get here. We had to make the emergency landing in the middle of the ocean out in the Azores and spent three or four hours on the runway dealing with that situation”.
He added: “I love match play. The one-on-one situations, when you can dictate the match by how you play, there is a lot of strategy involved. I love having one man to beat instead of 130-140 other guys. There's a lot more pressure on every putt, which I
kind of like”.
Bjorn was unable to compete against the American due to a massice score. Bjorn only scored two birdies throughout the day.
He was only impressive on the 8th hole and 11th hole. On the rest holes, he scored pars and faced a four-stroke defeat.
There are ample chances for Snedeker to show some more amazing strokes. On the other hand, he is gaining attention for being the only American professional in the field of the European Tour event.
He is also striving hard to be in the field of the Ryder Cups’ American Team. The tournament will be staged in September and the US will be fighting to grab the title from the defending champion, European Team.
In the second round of the tournament, Snedeker will face Branden Grace in Spain. Grace is also capable enough to defeat Snedeker. However, both the players have to deliver their best to be successful in the second round of the event.
