Volvo World Match Play Championship: Justin Rose looks to make an impressive start on the European
Justin Rose is planning to make an impressive start on the European Tour season by doing his best at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, starting this week.
The tournament is being staged from May 17 to 20, 2012. The selected venue of the event is the Spanish site of the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía.
The field has been set and all the players have arrived in Spain, to play the most sensational event of the year. All the professional players will face a tough competition, and grabbing a victory is an uphill task there.
The 31-year-old South African golfer is expecting a lot from the tournament. This will be his season-opening event of the European Tour and he has set his sights on it.
“It's exciting to be a part of this tournament,” Rose said. “I've played a couple of times, as it was formerly at Wentworth, and it has a great history of champions. Match play is always nice to play - we don't get the opportunity to do it that much. It
is an interesting one, sometimes you can shoot 66 and lose”.
He added: “You're looking at 24 great players, I try not to look at a group and go ‘that's a difficult group or that's an easy group’, because it's 18 holes of match play and anybody can beat anybody at this stage. You just have to go through and take it
match by match”.
The four-time PGA Tour and five-time European Tour winner hopes to deliver his best at the Volvo Match Play Championship and is gearing up to make high scores.
Since January, he has appeared at the PGA Tour and has played eleven tournaments so far. He recorded his first top-5 win at the Honda Classic in the first week of March. He improved his performance and successfully won the title of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac
Championship on March 11, 2012.
He finished tied for the fourth position at the Tavistock Cup, tied for the 15th at Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard and tied for the 8th at the Masters Tournament.
Similarly, he has shown a good performance at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, recording T10.
