Volvo XC 90 SUV problem

1.When i press on the accelerator to the end of the floor board, I am not able to speed up and the rev meter remains the unchangedd ie: 1.8RPM, it happen occasionally only.

2. My engine was automatically switched off on one occasion when i was travel ling at 20km/h ( turning into a Small road) of course, i lost control of the car who is still moving slowly, (car became very heavy, in possible to turn steering wheel).I immediately restart the car (while still moving) and continue driving.

Please help, volvo mechanic cannot solve the problem.

  1. A Volvo mechanic should be very familiar with the problem. It is the electronic throttle. Check the website below.


  2. suspect possible electronic throttle problem [there have been updates for software for various models] and actual failure of throttle bodies and accelerator pedals are not unheard of.

    note while these[and many other vehicles] require A LOT of effort to steer when the engine dies or the drive belt snaps they can be managed.[ practicing in an empty parking lot, coasting with the engine off will afford you the experiance of steering and brakeing without power assistance, the effoets involved will be eye opening and muscle burning. [at least you will know what to expect in an emergancy]
