Question:

Vomiting at Night For No Apparent Reason?

For the past 4 years, maybe more, I have had these weird bouts of waking up in the middle of the night (2-3am) and vomiting. Then I just go back to sleep and everything is fine. Sometime nausea preceeds the vomiting but other than that I am not sick. It happens maybe 1-2 time per month. Has anyone else experienced this or know what it is? Please do not tell me to see a doctor, that is obvious. I have no known health issue and take no meds.

  1. Maybe its caused by acid reflux. When you lie flat acid in the stomach becomes a problem when it begins to reflux back into the gullet (oesophagus).

This problem has happened to me several times but unfortunately I've managed to swallow the vomit accidentedly which burns like h**l.

There are medications that reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces but one tip that might help and help you determine if it is the acid that is making you sick is to not lie flat when sleeping. If you elevate your head and chest with lots of piullows at night gravity will help keep the acid down.

  2. Yeah, don't sleep on your stomach. That's usually it. Otherwise it might be due to drinking milk/eating dairy or having carbonated drinks. Even being overfull with food can cause it.

In general, nothing to eat/drink at least 4 hours before bed, regardless of regurgitation.

  3. try to take less food in dinner. if possible light food with little fluid.
