Question:

Vonage Caller ID Won't work?

I have Vonage and recently moved to a new house. I did the same as I did at my old house, made sure that the home wiring was completely disconnected outside. I plug the phone adapter in and there are a total of 4 phones, same as before, plugged into the phone jacks. I don't get any caller ID information at all. I had no problem with this at my old house. If I plug a phone directly into the phone adapter, no problem. It only fails when plugged into the home phone wiring. Besides the caller ID everything else works great. No noise or static of any type. Any ideas?

  1. It sounds like an issue with your new house wiring.

Obviously, the Caller-ID data is being delivered to the VoIP ATA box.

But, there is something about your new house wiring that is "loading" down the signal from the ATA.

Try a test using the same phone that works directly plugged into the ATA.

Plug the house phone line back into the ATA.  But this time no other phones in the house plugged into any of the phone jacks.

Now test the one good phone in all jacks around the house.

Will the Caller-ID work with this phone by itself on Any of the phone jacks?  This may narrow down to a particular jack that has a problem.

    Or,

Get a phone jack T-splitter, or Y-splitter that allows you to share one jack with two phones.

Plug this splitter directly into the back of the ATA.

Plug the one telephone into on side of the splitter and make sure it works ok.

Plug the house line into the other side of the splitter. (but no phones conneted to any of the house jacks)

Does the Caller-ID stop working with the phone on the other side of the Splitter?

If so, you definately have a wiring problem on your house lines.

You may need to disconnect all lines at the house demarc box and isolate and test each line indipendently to see if one is faulty and which one it is.  It's possible one of the house lines has a reversed connection causing a problem.

In the end, if you can't isolate what the house wiring problem is, then just get yourself a cordless DECT 6.0 phone system that is expandable to 3 or 4 (or more) handsets.  That is what I use with my VoIP ATA.  This way I don't have to bother with house wiring issues.

  2. Have you logged into your account to see if the calls are being logged there?  I think you should call customer service 800-994-0802

and I am sure that they'll fix the problem.
