  1. You really should be pressing Vonage customer service to resolve your problem, if you haven't already (of course, we all know that good customer service is a myth now days)

Yes, the Vonage box is an ATA.  But we would need to know the model to know if it is just a VoIP ATA or includes an integrated Router too.

Assuming your Router/ATA is not defective try RESETing both the ATA and Router.  If you don't know how try the links below and find your model and follow manual instructions.

Or, just unplug power (leave off 10 seconds) to Router and ATA to reset.

One important point about using Fax over VoIP lines.  Your ATA needs to be using the high-bandwidth G.711u/a codec.

You may need to verify the ATA box codec settings to verify G.711u/a is available and active.

Vonage has a feature called "Bandwidth Saver".  Be sure this feature is OFF or Disabled.  Bandwidth Saver changes the VoIP codec from high bandwidth to lower bandwidths such as G.729, G.726.  These codecs will not accomodate Fax transmissions - you need G.711 enabled only.

If all fails with Vonage, try another service provider, such as InPhonex or CallCentric.  Both accomodate Fax.  InPhonex supplies Fax compatible ATAs.  CallCentric is BYOD (bring your own ATA device). More importantly, these companies offer pay-as-you-go services, which means you are not required to sign any contracts or commitments.  Only pay for what you use, or pay month-by-month and terminate at anytime. (see link in my profile).

One place to buy configurable (not locked, like Vonage ATA's) BYOD ATA's is from voipsupply.com
