Vonage Help. Phone reads "can't connect"?

Question

Im pretty sure its all hooked up right, I have the vonage vdv21.

With a brand new phone that came with it, but when i try to make a call the phone says "connecting....." and then "can't connect"

I switched the phone cords. I checked and rechecked the instructions but still no luck. please help.
