Former Zenit coach, Nikolai Vorobyov, has identified the problematic positions which require strenghtening in the ongoing summer transfer window
Former Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Nikolai Vorobyov, has urged his former club to strengthen up during the ongoing summer transfer window, if they are to retain the Russian Premier League title this season.
The fact that Zenit will play a lot of games in different tournaments this year worries Vorobyov, who believes that Luciano Spalletti will struggle without decent back-up players in the squad.
Vorobyov advised the Italian tactician to sign cover for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Anyukov-c4549 and Domenico Criscito this summer, as Zenit will play in the UEFA Champions League, Russian Cup and the Russian Premier League.
“There are injuries, disqualifications, as well as psychological and physical fatigue. If we talk about central defenders, they are essentially two: Bruno Alves and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Lombaerts-c27825. And another pair: Tomas Hubocan and Aleksandar
Lukovic. So, we can say that Zenit’s central are short of decent players. This means that the amplification of this position is really needed.” The Soviet Top League winner was quoted as saying.
News in Russian and Portuguese media suggests that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bruno-Alves-c8108 is likely to leave Petrovsky stadium in a bid to join Juventus this summer. Vorobyov is of the belief that Zenit need to sign a Russian defender for the future and
gave the example of Lombaerts.
“I think the team needs a player for the future, but already have some experience playing at a high level, as they signed Lombaerts. At the time, he was quite young, but he proved himself.” He said.
The 52-year-old revealed that Zenit play attacking football so they need to have a rock solid defence.
Vorobyov, meanwhile, praised Zenit’s winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-Bystrov-c36328, admitting that the former Spartak Moscow star is a talented and skilful player. However, he has urged the Russian outfit to search a replacement for him too, as the
prolific winger remained on the sidelines for majority of the last season.
Bystrov failed to get a national team call-up at Euro 2012 after sustaining a leg injury in March. Vorobyov believes that Zenit need to buy a decent winger from outside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991.
