Voskoboeva/Bracciali crush Llagostera Vives/Marach to reach semis – French Open 2012
Kazakh-Italian duo, Galina Voskoboeva and Daniele Bracciali, devastated the Spanish-Austrian pair, Nuria Llagostera Vives and Oliver Marach, with a breadstick at the Roland Garros 2012 on Tuesday. They jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 success against their opponents to progress into the semi-finals at this prestigious clay court tournament taking place in Paris, France.
The in-form Kazakh-Italian collaboration tumbled over Llagostera Vives and Marach in just under an hour. After registering this straight set victory, Voskoboeva and Bracciali cruised into the last four at this second Grand Slam event of the circuit.
Voskoboeva and Bracciali stormed into the Court number two and swiped their entire serves after brushing off all four breakpoints they came across. They capitalised on two out of seven break opportunities and pulled out the opener with a breadstick.
The Kazakh-Italian junction improved their game in the following set and reeled off their entire serves without encountering any breakpoint. They cashed in two out of six break opportunities and sealed the set by winning six games to two.
All in all, Voskoboeva and Bracciali manifested a better first serve share of 54 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 44 per cent and impressively marked 19 out of 25 points on it. They also sought 13 break chances and sealed the deal by bagging 57 points.
Next challenge for Voskoboeva and Bracciali is the seventh seeded Indian tandem, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi. The Indians upset second seeds, Czech Republic’s Kveta Peschke and America’s Mike Bryan, in straight sets to set up this battle.
The fifth seeded Russian-Indian pair, Elena Vesnina and Leander Paes, will accompany Voskoboeva and Bracciali in the last four. They hit back from a set down to shock top seeds, America’s Liezel Huber and Belarus’ Max Mirnyi, to advance.
Vesnina and Paes made a sloppy start on the same court earlier that day. They lost the opening set but found their rhythm afterwards. The lower seeds capitalised on their second break chance in the end of the second set to pull out the equaliser and then ruled in the super tie-breaker to register a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 score line.
