Question:

Voter Registration Question?

My drivers license and car registration are both linked to my brothers address, which is not really where I live. (Car insurance in the city of Chicago is ridiculous!) That's probably not legal, but oh well.

I want to vote, but do I register in the county my brother lives in, or where I actually live?

  1. Voter registration is best in the place where you presently live and not at a ficticious address. You should have means of identification, your birth certificate,  social security card, and drivers license( which you would rather skip)

  2. Register where you really live.  You can show your utility bills for proof of address.  Keep the envelope.  If something went through the USPS and was delivered to you it counts as legal proof of address.  This is in NY.  (I used to register people to vote).

I guess you an also google voter registration (and then the state where you live).

  3. Election laws vary from state to state, so you should check with your local Board of Elections (in the town you actually live in) as to what they consider proper proof of residency when registering to vote and if they require ID or your Social Security card when you go to vote.
