Voter registration in California?

My friend and registered to vote for the democratic party about 3 weeks ago...we asked for absentee ballots because we're both going to school away from our home town...she received a letter (about 2 weeks ago) in the mail asking her for the address she needs her ballot sent to, but I never received one. Should I wait a little longer, or do something about it? How would I go about asking for an absentee ballot? I'm 18, so this is my first time registering. Thanks :)
