Let me first be honest, I am 29 and I still havent registered to vote. Let it be known that it is of my own free will to not vote (I am not a felon and I am a born citizen of the US, nor have I commited murder) but, honestly I dont see any reason I should my votes dont matter since I feel nothing will change. Im still going to have to pay taxes, Im still going to have to pay outrageous gas prices.. Convince me as to why I should start voting?

Snide comments will recieve a thumbs down. fyi

  1. Your individual vote makes no difference, actually.

Democrats and Republicans are just different brands of fascist. They're going to do the same thing.

A Democrat is going to take your money and use it for the welfare state, which hurts and demeans the poor.

A Republican is going to take your money and use it to blow up some Muslims.

Everyone -that means both parties- is up there on the stage, saying what they think is a good idea and what we should do. It's all, "I think," "I feel," "It would be good if..."

Nobody's running on the law of the land. The Constitution. Does the Constitution say anything about federal abstinence programs? Does the Constitution say anything about being allowed to be world policeman? Does the Constitution say anything about the federal government being able to decide who you can and can't marry? No. It doesn't. It's not allowed, therefore it is denied. The loose constructionalist view of the Constitution is the same rationale as a teenager who figures he can throw a massive party and get high when his parents are away, because they didn't expressly say he couldn't.

Voting is just a social thing. You vote because you hope to get presents from whoever's in charge, and/or because you can go around saying that you voted for X, which either makes you an enlightened prophet or absolves you of all blame.

EDIT: You can still complain if you didn't vote. If there are no good choices and you decide that even the lesser evil is unacceptable, why is your opinion suddenly invalid?

  2. It doesn't necessarily matter because the electoral college can still "out-rule" us. Just as they did in the elections of 1824, 1876, 1888, and 2000, the candidate receiving a plurality of the popular vote did not become president.

Good point. It's almost useless. Though if I don't vote, I can't complain about the president when he/she fouls up.

  3. Why should you vote?  simply put because you don't have the moral right to complain if you didn't bother to participate.  Your vote, along with the votes of other disenfranchised voters (look around this part of Yahoo Answers), could make the changes possible.

  4. Does WE THE PEOPLE ring a bell with you.....Now more than ever you most definitely need to VOTE. People all over this world are for the first time tasting the FREEDOM to vote. Register Independent and vote for who you think is  the best person. To not vote is to surrender and give up this gift this country has given us. Read about the candidates...see what they have to say and what they have voted on in the past. Get out there and make a difference. We have men and women dying for us on a daily basis....they mean the world to us let them at least know you care enough for the FREEDOM to try and straighten things out at home. WE THE PEOPLE no matter what party get it now...............Vote ......Palin

  5. It's simple.  Democrats are for the people and republicans are for exploiting the people.  Take your pick!

  6. Voting gives you the right to speak out and complain about how the government operates.  If you do not vote, you have no right to complain about anything that goes wrong.  It is not mandated anywhere that you have to vote.  It is a right which many countries do not give to their citizens and if you choose not to take advantage of it, that is also your right.  But I would rather have the opportunity to have a say in who is elected, which propositions are passed and which laws are invoked that sit back and watch the whole system go to h**l in a hand basket.  You have to be proactive today or the world is going to pass you by and you won't have anything to say about it.
