Voting registry?

I've been 18 for 2 months and I want to register to vote. I only want to vote for the presidential election because that's the only election I really care about. How do I register?

The 1996 National Voter Registration Act made it possible for you to register to vote in quite a few different places:

Driver's License (DMV/HSMV) Agency

Social Services Offices

Public Libraries

Post Offices

Obviously, you can also register at the Voter Registrar's office, though it may have a different name depending on where you live.  As another answerer said, most political party headquarters can help you too.

I would encourage you, however, to vote in all elections, not just the national ones.  Most don't realize it, but the local elected officials (county commissioners, school board members, city councils) have WAY more impact on your life than the President or Congress--especially financial impact!

Most places you can find registration locations online now. Some states if not all you can now do it at DMV offices too. After several weeks you will be sent your voters card, and location of the nearest polling place closest to your home. Whichever election you wish to vote in is up to you. Good for you for being so civic minded and exercising your right. Think about voting in other local elections too, they are just as important sometimes more so, than a Presidential election.

When you reach 18, register at the nearest Election Office in the local government office so that you can vote.
