  1. A co-worker of mine has that exact bike and I have ridden it several times. I think it would make an excellent first bike. Very easy to ride and very comfortable. I don't know if any of these other folks have actually ridden one but it is not hard to handle and is certainly not too much power even for a beginner...that's just laughable.

  2. No, just no. Too big, too hard to maneuver, and its not like you have a great deal of experience so you can turn this thing on a dime. Cruisers are fine, but a 900 is a bit much. (I know by cruiser standards its a middle weight, but don't.) Don't go there. no, nein, nyet, non, etc.

Beside that I think you ate up the potential Cruiser insurance saving, by going for a 900 as opposed to a 650 or something more reasonable.

Can't you find a Buell Blast? This thing is a dream for new riders, or for someone coming off a cruiser.  Handles tightly and only 360 lbs., and the Vulcan 900 is around 550 lbs.

  3. Alot of people will tell you to start out with a 250. Don't do that you'll outgrow it in a week or two. I started out on an 800. I was hoping to start on a 600 but didn't have any problems with an 800 and am glad now that I'm comfortable taht I have something a littel bigger. For insurance check out progressive, I pay $160 for the whole year although I'm in Chicago where we only have a 6 month season. I would be concerned more about weight than size. I have a Intruder 800 V Twin which is a decent size bike but it only weighs 440 which is lighter than some sport bikes.

  4. Do able but by far not a better one.  The motor size is not it.  it is just not an easier one to handle and is quite big.  There are some 1100's out there that are way easier than that is to ride.

  5. You might think about the Vulcan 500.  It should be able to do everything you need it to while being lighter while you are learning.  I think the 900 is doable if it fits you well and you really like it.  Be sure to take a MSF course so you can get a feel for riding and see what the smaller bikes are like.

  6. Well let me tell you from experience....just bought my first cruiser not long ago. I havent been on a motorcycle since my teens, used to dirtbike it all the time, and I tell ya its different. The one I got was an old 84 700c magna and its more than enough bike to be getting the hang of things back on. I probably would have went with a smaller bike if i could have found one for what I wanted to spend. 4 dollar gas was a major factor in my buying a bike. I have to admit Im startin to like it again.

  7. It is a little heavy even bulky. I think it is a fine looking bike though. Maybe drop down some what for the first one and maybe get something used. You are sure to drop this first bike a couple of times so bend up some thing that matters a little less. Later buy the 1600 Vulcan with all the goodies.
