Vyacheslav Koloskov compares Zenit St. Petersburg with Shakhtar Donetsk
Former President of the Russian Football Union, Vyacheslav Koloskov, has compared the Russian Premier League champions Zenit St. Petersburg with the Ukrainian Premier League title holders, Shakhtar Donetsk.
Koloskov revealed that the aforementioned clubs are among the emerging forces in Eastern Europe. Zenit and Shakhtar managed to win the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup back in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
The former Soviet Union national football team manager went on to highlight that Zenit are flourishing under the ownership of Gazprom. Koloskov is of the belief that Gazprom are supporting Zenit by providing them with hefty cash injections at difficult times.
"Gazprom hold great financing, they are fulfilling their responsibility, and they have always been interested in sports and its development.” Koloskov was quoted as saying.
The 70-year-old is of the view that coaches play an important role in building up a team and highlighted the foreign coaches of the Bomzhi and the Miners.

Koloskov went on to praise the respective managers and identified them as the reson behind their clubs’ success.
“If we talk about the reason behind Zenith and Shakhtar’s rise, the first thing that stands out for both the clubs are the responsible coaches. Both the clubs have skilled foreign professionals who have their own philosophy and commands.” He said.
“Coaches know who they want in the team, so the owners buy them and they continue to build their game.” Koloskov went on.

There is little arguing the statement as there are a total of eight Brazilians playing for Shakhtar this season.
The Russian national is of the belief that over the years, Zenit and Shakhtar have gained immense popularity across the globe but insisted that Zenit are more reliable and decent as compared to the Ukrainian club at the moment.
