Vyacheslav Senchenko: I could fight Amir Khan if I win over Ricky Hatton – Boxing News
Ricky Hatton’s comeback opponent Vyacheslav Senchenko believes his fight against the Briton is a step further towards a fight against Briton fighter Amir Khan. Senchenko believes asserted that his fight against Hatton will be more of a technical fight than
a power show.
“I’m not looking in advance, because when I win this fight, I will be in contention for some of the biggest fights out there,” said Senchenko. “I could fight Amir Khan if I win, but right now I’m concentrating on this fight. I will have to see what’s next.”
Ricky Hatton will be making his comeback against Senchenko this Saturday. The former welterweight titlist will return to the ring following a two year retirement period. Hatton lost to welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. via knockout, which was the
first defeat of his career. He then lost to Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao via second round knockout.
Since the defeat was highly devastating for Hatton, he decided to give up his boxing career. Hatton suffered through a depressive and alcoholic period in his life but he believes now he is back to what he once was.
Although most analysts believe fight Hatton now is an easy job for Senchenko, the latter refuses to accept so.
“When I made the decision to fight Ricky, I did it expecting the best Ricky Hatton. We know Ricky wouldn’t have come back if he wasn’t at his best – that’s just how boxing is,” said Senchenko.
“Ricky wouldn’t have taken the risk if he didn’t think he was 100 per cent. So we’re expecting a very hard fight. We’re expecting the best Ricky Hatton, a prime Ricky Hatton.”
While Senchenko is looking forward to face Amir Khan after Hatton, the latter is looking forward to a title shot at WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi. A win for Ricky would reinvent his career, while a win for Senchenko would give him entry into
the British boxing scene.
According to Hatton, he still wants to win a title shot but more than that he wants to prove himself in the ring, and the fact that he still is the same ‘Hitman’ he once was.
