W HAT does "lough" mean in Irish?

I'm trying to figure out is Moylough, Ireland is in any way connected to the surname "Moyle."

  1. Moylough is "Maigh Locha", in County Galway. "Loch" can mean either a lake or a sea inlet, and "Maigh Locha" means "Plain of the Lake/Inlet".

    The surname "Moyle" has no connection to it. It is nbt a native Irish surname but there is a region in Antrim called Moyle and there is a Lord Moyle, who of course willuse Moyle as his surname, but that's an exception.
