It is the job of the person who is handing off the baton to slap it firmly into the next runner's open hand.  It's the job of the person receiving to open their hand underhanded, fingers together and thumb out, relatively level, and not moving around so that it's an easy target.  The teams haven't mastered the basics, and don't train enough at "race" speeds with their "race" lineups.  Tyson was not properly given the baton in the men's race, and Lauren was at fault for the women's.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Jamaica men's team breaks the 4X100m WR in the finals with their lineup.

i can not believed they dropped that baton. i do 4x100 at my high school and my coach is like the person recieving the baton should rip that baton firmly out the hand of the person giving the baton. when the person recieving it has more control you have a safer exchange. and the US womens olympic 4x100 team also dropped the baton. UNBELIEVABLE. and i feel horrible for tyson g*y. he didn't make the 100m olympic team, he didn't medal in the 200, and his 4x100 team DNF on his exchange. but still, kudos to those jamaicans. they earned their bragging rights fairly.

The Americans were far too arrogant. They overlooked the event thinking it was in the bag.
