I own a web design company online. I want to setup a sole proprietorship, because I don't have enough money for a LLC or Corp. If I get a DBA for my Sole Proprietorship, can I write myself checks as if I were to get them from a job I don't own?

  1. You are the dba.  You can write yourself checks if you want.  Just record the properly on the books.

  2. You don't issue yourself a 1099-misc or a W-2.

However, it *is* a good idea to keep a separate bank account for the business and then write distribution checks to yourself.  You won't actually show the distributions on your tax return.  The schedule C will simply show the overall profit or loss.
