  1. Yes, according to the U.S. state dep't, you do need a visa. See site below, under entry requirements.  There is also a link to the embassy to get application information.


  2. on a cruse the cruse line handles the visa for you.

When we went on our Med cruise in October 2005 on a Royal Caribbean ship WE DID NOT NEED A VISA and we took a took an all day tour to Ephesus and then went on our own to the shops and market before getting back on ship.  If you are not going to Turkey to stay you do not need a visa.  If you plan to stay there after your cruise you will likely need a visa.  "Passengers in transit through Turkey who do not leave their port of transit do not require visas."

    I don't even recall us even having to sign and submit a tourist card.  If there is any requirement it would be something like that.
