WA Thundersticks beats Victoria Vikings by 3-1 in Australian Hockey League
The men’s field hockey team of WA Thundersticks emerged victorious over Victoria Vikings by two goals in the fifth round of the Australian Hockey League (AHL) that took place in Perth on June 26, 2011.
It is vital to mention here that the team WA Thundersticks is currently holding second place on the table with 14 points. It won four out of five matches in the league and scored 14 goals, while conceding only 6. On the other hand, the team of Victoria Vikings
is sitting at the third position with ten points. It lost two games out of a total of five and won three. They scored 17 goals and conceded 15 goals in five games.
The game between WA Thundersticks and Victoria Vikings was not quite competitive, but a one-sided contest.
After a few minutes of the game opening, Thundersticks started to-and-fro strikes in order to increase pressure on opponent's players from Victoria Vikings. Trent Mitton managed to take the ball to the top of the circle and dribbled a couple of defenders
to send it into the Victoria Vikings’ goal-post. It was a splendid effort from the Thundersticks that further boosted the spirit of other players.
The opening goal of the player not only revved up the attackers from Victoria Vikings, but also from Thundersticks. Both the squads started fast and furious game, as the team trailing one goal wanted an equaliser, while the other squad wanted to hold back
the lead. In a matter of six minutes, Alistair Park doubled the tally through a field effort. He took the ball into the defensive circle of Victoria Vikings and tapped it into the cage.
Daniel Mirecki took the ball under his control and made a run towards the down-field. He commanded a close range shot into the goal and reduced the advantage down to a single goal, 2-1. However, it was the only offence from the two teams. The defensemen
from the two teams were at their best in the remaining period and first half action won completed with Thundersticks leading the game at 2-1.
The second half of play was quite slow as compared to first, as only a single goal was scored throughout the 35 minutes. After an end-to-end play, Brent Dancer converted a short-corner and sealed the WA Thundersticks win at 3-1.
