http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s former Test cricketer, Graeme Wood, has taken up the position of State Manager for Treasury of Wine Estate, after resigning as Western Australian Cricket Association’s (WACA) Chief Executive – a designation which the former Aussie batsman held for 5 years.
Based on reports, despite his resignation, Wood will be retaining the post till the end of this year, until WACA finds a suitable replacement for the position.
Prior to signing alliance with the WACA in 2007, Wood had a spent a 17-year long stint with the liquor industry, during his tenure with the beer making giants, Foster’s, where the Aussie worked under the company’s senior management position for the marketing and sales department.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110 stated that with uncertainty clouding the development of the WACA ground, it was time for him move on and that he was required to take up the role with the Treasury Wine Estates.
Wood said that his main reason for taking up the new role was because he had previously enjoyed working in the liquor industry and that the new role will allow him and his family to bring a change in their lifestyle.
Wood, however, comprehended that he had a memorable tenure with the WACA, and was glad to see numerous changes being brought about on the set-up.
“It has been a great pleasure to be involved in an exciting five years at the WACA. In that time there have been achievements such as improved facilities for staff, undergoing a restructure of our cricket operations, undertaking a partnership with Murdoch University to develop a new training facility, enjoying positive dealings with regulatory authorities such as EPRA on the redevelopment of the WACA Ground, and securing two world-renowned coaches for the Retravision http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969,” said Wood.
Wood’s debut with the Australian national side came in January, 1978, where the batsman represented the team in a home Test match against the Indian tourists; while a month later, the player also premiered his first ever One Day International (ODI) outing with the Aussies.
With a decade long career to his name, Wood played 59 Test for Australia, with a total of 3374 runs and 83 ODIs with 2219 runs.
