WADA and UCI denied the controversial reports on Alberto Contador’s decision
UCI and WADA both have reacted on the controversy involving Alberto Contador’s decision. The decision is pending with Court of Arbitration for Sport but it is claimed that the final verdict has already been made in favour of the cyclist.
Different media reports have challenged the judge’s objectivity on the issue. Owner of Team Leopard Trek, Flavio Becca, first made his claims that there was a link between Contador’s Team, Saxo Bank training camp in Israel.
The fact that the judge on the case is an Israeli might help the cyclist to get the decision in his favour.
Becca briefed, "An Israeli judge will issue a ruling on Contador, and Saxo Bank is doing its training camp in Israel, even being officially received by the Government. These are two facts that cannot be separated. At this point, I think everything is already
decided".
It took everyone by surprise when Team Saxo Bank’s owner, Bjarne Riis decided to take his team to Israel.
It was the first time ever a top-ranked team had visited the country for preparing ahead of a new season.
Moreover, it was also announced that the riders in the Danish squad will build a cycling school for the Israeli’s nationals. The school will be located in Acre, Northern Israel with more than 70% of Jewish popularity.
Sports24.co.za revealed that WADA’s lawyers were close to walking out of the cyclist’s CAS hearing last November.
The hearing was established to determine if the Spaniard had doped during the Tour de France 2010.
The website reported, “Hearing participants said Ashenden, if allowed, could have expanded on the theory that Contador may have had a blood transfusion on July 20, followed the next day by an injection of blood plasma”.
The cyclist was accused of using the UCI banned substance, clenbuterol during the French grand tour.
As the time of final decision is approaching, it seems as if the main reason behind the walk out was the denial of oral testimony by WADA’s key witnesses.
It was also reported by Cicloweb.it that Saxo Bank is the first team ever to race at the World Tour level. The decision that will decide the future of the Spanish cyclist is due in a week’s time.
