Question:

WARNING: Compact UVB bulbs = NO!?

I had bought one because I needed a UVB bulb, well it was a BAD idea! Within an hour of putting it in and turning it on my poor baby (beardie) went to the furthest corner away from the light, jammed his face up against the tank and became EXTREMELY tense. This is not usual behavior for my little baby. I think the UVB bulb was too much for him. Don't worry, I have another hood with the proper bulb coming in the mail (the tubey kind, lol). I didn't think it would be that big of a difference, but wow! Just be careful of what you're buying. Know your bulbs! =(

  1. They are ok, however the UVA and UVB output's aren't as high, you may find it's releasing some heat which is why your BD's gone away from it.  Check your temps.  Switch to a regular when you can, I've always  prefered tubes to compacts.

its not that its too much, its that the compacts as well as the repti glo 10.0 and all of zilla's bulbs produce the wrong wavelength of uvb, lower in the spectrum, and causes pain and damage to the eye known as  photo-kerato-conjunctivitis. here's a link to a study done by one of the most trusted testers of reptile UV lamps.  safe bulbs are reptisuns, t-rex's active uv heat, powersun mvb, reptiglo 8.0, and the mega-ray series of lamps (the absolute best)

  5. They are very bad for their eyes...do not use them!
