WBA Super Lightweight champion Amir Khan eyes two more fights in 2011 – Boxing news
The current WBA World Super Lightweight champion, Amir Khan has said that he will feature in two more fights in 2011.
The 24-year-old, ‘King Khan’ believes that he will be fighting at the end of 2011 to prepare for his first biggest showdown of 2012 against the world’s best Welterweight prospect, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Currently, Amir Khan is planning to take on Zab Judah in an attempt to unify the IBF and WBA Light Welterweight titles on July 23, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, United States.
Khan made four successful defences of his WBA Light Welterweight title. His last fight was against Paul McCloskey where he won six-round decision on April 16, 2011 fighting at M.E.N Arena in Manchester.
While speaking to the media about his upcoming fights, Khan said, “I'm hoping to get Zab Judah out of the way and look good against him, and then get one more fight at the end of the year.”
The American professional boxer, Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr., who is currently the five-division world champion, is scheduled to take on the Mexican-American professional boxer, Victor Ortiz for their 12-round WBC Welterweight world title bout on September
19, 2011. The venue of the Mayweather vs. Ortiz fight is still undecided. Khan believes that this fight will be like a procession for the 34-year-old undefeated boxer, Floyd Mayweather.
There is no denying the fact that Khan is interested to increase his weight more than 140 lbs so that he could avail chances of title shots in high divisions but firstly he needs to defeat all the other welterweights in his division.
It was expected that Khan can opt to go against Timothy Bradley if they both agreed to the terms and conditions of the fight contract. However, Khan has now confirmed that he would prefer to go against the winner of the Ortiz-Mayweather bout.
