WBA champion Amir Khan lands in US for bout against Zab Judah – Boxing news
The current WBA World super lightweight champion Amir Khan landed in the United States on Tuesday for the biggest fight of his career thus far against the current IBF light welterweight champion, Zab Judah.
This is a unification bout and will be held this Saturday on July 23, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas and Khan has claimed 60 percent of his fans are women.
Khan, who has won 25 of his 26 professional fights including 17 by the way of a knockout, told the media nearly 20,000 tickets were sold for his last fight against Paul McCloskey and many of them were bought by women.
Khan joked and while speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I don’t know why so many watch me fight, maybe they like my body or something. It’s because I’m a good-looking lad, aren’t I ?”
The 24-year-old Khan reckons a lot of boxers hesitate to talk about a lot of things and when they talk, they talk wrong.
However, the Bolton belter, who is widely known as King Khan, believes he talks right. Therefore, he thinks he has brought a lot of women into the sport of boxing.
Khan continued in a light mood and said he wants an all-women crowd someday. He stated he wants all the men to sit home and watch the bout on pay-per-view, as he wants an all-female audience to be there in the arena watching him fight.
Khan stated, “A lot of fighters can’t talk, they’re quiet or say the wrong things. I say the right things and have got a lot of women into boxing. They love it. I’ve changed boxing, I want to eventually get a crowd of 100 per cent women at a fight - all
the guys at home watching pay per view, and all the women in the arena.”
Khan’s world unification fight has been brought forward a week by the United States broadcasters Home Box Office, as Khan wants it to happen before the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan, which will be starting in August.
