WBA champion Felix Sturm confirms rematch with Matthew Macklin – Boxing news
The current WBA champion Felix Sturm has confirmed his rematch with the former British and European middleweight champion Matthew Macklin in November 2011 as he wants to settle his dispute with the Irish pugilist.
The 32-year-old Sturm and the 29-year-old Macklin met each other in the ring last month on June 25, 2011 at the Lanxess Arena in Germany. Sturm secured a win over Macklin by a controversial points’ decision even when he was dominated by the challenger for
a large part of the contest. Therefore, a lot of discussions have been going on about the fight.
Sturm admitted about the statements which have come up after June 25 and therefore he wants the battle to take place at the same place once again.
He stated it was a very close fight and also one of the best fights in the middleweight division. He believes the discussions which are going on will be stopped once they both fight again.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “It really was a close thing on June 25 at the Lanxess Arena. I think Matthew Macklin and I have put up a great fight that surely ranks among the best in the middleweight division. Of course, there still a lot of
discussion, but all this talk will stop.”
Sturm remarked his manager went to Macklin’s camp and they have successfully negotiated a date in November 2011 for the rematch.
“This afternoon my manager sent a contract for a rematch to Matthew Macklin’s camp. We have an appointment on the 25 - 26 November 2011 in the Lanxess Arena proposed,” said Sturm.
The Sturm-Macklin bout was an enthralling battle. However, Sturm, who has won 36 of his 39 fights including 15 by the way of a knockout, has claimed the rematch will be an even hard fight.
He said, “My suggestion to Matthew Macklin: Let's clear the thing among men of the world. As I said, I'm ready and I'm sure we'll see an even bigger fight in November.”
Let’s see whether Macklin is able to avenge his defeat this time or not.
