WBC title up for grabs in Froch v Abraham
Good news for Carl Froch as it emerges that his fight against Arthur Abraham on the 27th of November will now be for the WBC title, which was previously thought to be heading towards the Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell bout.
It was widely believed that a chance to fight for the title would evade Froch after he lost it in April to Mikkel Kessler. The Nottingham fighter wanted the opportunity to win his belt back and even talked about quitting if he couldn’t. However Kessler’s withdrawal and subsequent vacation of his belt has put the title back into the mix and makes the Super Six a lot more interesting.
Had it gone to the winner of the Ward v Dirrell fight there is a very

good chance that “The Son of God” would take it and unify the division, effectively making him king of the super-middleweights before the final. However putting it in the Froch v Abraham fight it keeps things competitive and more interesting as Ward or Dirrell won’t have the full set.
Froch lost the title to Kessler amidst a brutal war which also saw the Englishman lose his unbeaten record as well. Kessler’s subsequent eye injury curtailed his involvement in the Super Six tournament and allowed veteran Jamaican Glen Johnson to join the proceedings for the last round of fixtures.
Realistically Froch needs a victory to secure his place in the final and he will be watching Johnson v Allan Green nervously over his shoulder because Johnson can still qualify with and emphatic win and so will be in contention for snatching a semi-final spot. Should Dirrell cause a surprise as well it could be over for “The Cobra”.
Therefore there will be a great deal riding on the outcome of the Nottingham fighter’s matchup with Abraham. The German is as tough as they get in the super-middlweights. Like Froch he only had one defeat to his name when he came into this tournament, but that record was lost in controversial circumstances as he was disqualified for hitting Dirrell when he was down, but quite frankly the American made quite a big deal of it and Abraham was unlucky.
At least Froch and Abraham can head out looking to get their hands on the Cobra’s old title as the Super Six starts to get interesting again. Things are heating up now and the semis are touching distance away, therefore winning the WBA strap is only half the battle.
