  1. What the hec are those?!

I dig the big new Ace's and the old proven C44-9W

my bus yard is right on the metrolink/bnsf/up/amtrak route in riverside ca, best local fanning spot...i see em all

  2. To translate for others first:

WCAM-3: Central Railway's 5000HP dual voltage loco. Similar looks to the WCAM-2.

WCAM-2P: The main loco for Western Railway. No streamlining or curving bodywork here.

WCAM-1: The first multivoltage locomotive on Indian Railways.

WAP-5: Indian Railway's high speed and high technology passenger electric locos. Slightly streamlined.

WAP-7: High speed passenger version of the WAG-9. Very similar looking to WAP-5.

WAM-4: A mixed traffic hard working loco, slab fronted and looks fairly dated nowadays.

WAP-4: The top end of electric Indian Rail locos. Streamlined (ish) and with modern equipment (e.g dynamic brake resistor grid) - a passenger express loco.

So, my favourite (of that choice) would be the WAM-4, because it looks like a solid, no-messing, working loco.

But really I'd choose the WCM-5 (not on your list and now extinct apart from a preserved example) which has a proper 'nose' to it.

  3. In a manner of speaking, none of the above. The only "modern" loco that ever got my attention, was Union Pacific's 6900 Centennial series. Dual V12 engines that sound like music when roaring ;-)

Two Centennials could pull a load that'd leave a group of five of most other locos "huffing and puffing." The tractive effort they're rated for makes me say "holy s**t, what a monster!"

Sadly, the 6900's are no longer in service.
