WCL Div 1: Ireland wins the well deserved tournament

Canada repeated its yesterday performance by beating the Kenyan side in the last over of the match to grab the 5th position in the tournament.
The Irish side won the toss and put the Scottish side to bat at VRA Ground, Amstelveen. Ireland remained unbeaten in the tournament whereas Scotland’s only defeat was against Ireland. Scotland openers gave them the best stand of the tournament as well as the record 1st wicket stand for Scotland. Fraser Watts (98 of 112) and Preston Mommsen (80 of 107) established the good foundation for their side. Mommsen was the first one to go when he was caught behind on a ball of O’Brien at the score of 141 in 31st over of the match. After the fall of the first wicket no other Scottish batsmen could give Watts a company and kept losing their wickets to give a chance to Ireland to come back in the game. Captain Gordon Drummond (30 of 26) was only other batsman except the openers to score in the double figures. Watts almost carried a bat for the Scottish side when he was dismissed as 9th wicket with only two runs short of his century. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 was able to score 232 with a run rate of 4.75 with all players back in the pavilion in 49th over. O’Brien, Johnston, Dockrell and Jones took 2 wickets each for the Irish side.
Ireland in reply to a total of 232 lost their first 3 wickets in the first 12 overs of the game when Ireland was just on 51. Stirling (32 of 38) was the only one to give some resistance to the Scottish pace attack. After the early losses Ireland needed someone to play match winning innings to take their side to the victory stand. O'Brien (98 of 104) and Andrew White (79 of 87) gave their side a match awaited stand. 4th wicket stand of 160 runs won took the Irish side to the brink of victory. Ireland comfortably won this match by 6 wickets with 31 balls yet to be bowled. O’Brien was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant 98 runs not out as well as 2 wickets for his team.
In the third fourth playoff match played at Hazelaarweg, Rotterdam hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. They stumbled in the start of the innings but 3rd wicket stand of 78 runs between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wesley-Barresi-c96487 (51 of 40).
Afghans chased down the target in 46 overs and won the match by 5 wickets with no real panic from the batsmen except two early losses. Mohammad Shahzad (82 of 108) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asghar-Stanikzai-c1094 (64 of 68) were the top scorers for the Afghan side. Tom Cooper for his brilliant 96 was awarded as the Man of the Match.
In last match of the day to decide the best among the worst, Canada beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328 took 3 wickets for the North American side with an economy of 3.9 runs.
The Canadian side was shaky in the start of the innings but progressed well as the day passed. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748. Alfred Luseno took 2 wickets for the Kenyan side. Eruch Surkari was awarded as the Man of the Match for his match winning 49 runs.
