  1. GM will be coming out with one in 2010.

  2. The Green Vehicles Triac (available in July) has a max speed of 80 mph and range of 100 miles per charge.  It's the first of several EVs soon to come out which will fill this gap.  See link below.

  3. In fairytale land  right along side most 'alturnitve' fuels and ideals

  4. If you would buy a car that goes 200 miles on a charge, you may be planning to go further from charging stations than you should, like inter-city.

This would suggest that you will need a very fast charge wherever you go, not a charger you can plug in over night at a motel. If you have that 20 minute charge, and it is everywhere, you might be prepared to live with a shorter range.

Or you might like to tow a rental battery trailer that you can leave off at a charging depot, and pick up another trailer to give you that extra range if you plan to do those out of city trips infrequently. In your home town the 80 km range would be just fine.

If you are driving mostly inside the town, your need for speed will be lower... let's say 80 km/h so that you can still use the city expressway.

Manufacturers start conceiving vehicles to serve a market niche. But electric vehicles have some limitations thus far that do not suggest themselves to people planning to make long inter-city trips. It may be best to take your town car on the train to wherever you are going.

  5. The present batteries are much too heavy. Enough battery power to give good acceleration are far too heavy.

  6. I don't know

Some Civic Electric Hybrids are leased to celebs at $600 a month.

  7. The two options you mention are pretty much the same you can have a car that goes 200mph but it will only go 1 mile or you can have the 30mph option and it will go 80-90 miles.

The GM car mentioned above is the Chevrolet 'volt' last I heard they were working on a modula concept that could have different power sources 'E-flex' one being a very small motor useing a tiny amout of fuel to charge a battery effectivly giving it 100's of miles to the gallon
