  1. You should have water, a radio that runs on batteries and a place with NO windows to hide- honestly in the basement or in the bathroom with no window - IN THE BATHTUB - is the best place.

Also a flashlight, blankets to cover your head and face with and some food that won't go bad - granola bars, etc. that you can easily eat.

Turn off your electrical stuff including the computer.

    Your cats will find shelter.

Don't tie up your horses and maybe you should even let them out of the barn - they will find shelter too.

You should NOT be in a room with windows - in the family room - if you don't have a room without windows, get into a closet - that's the worst danger - the glass hitting you or something flying through the glass.

If you hear the warning sirens in your area - get in the room or closet and stay there until 30 mintues after they go off.  You may have to poke your head out of the closet to hear if they go off.  Keep your inside animals with you if you can, if you don't have room, your life is more important than theirs right now.

    GO

  2. don't fret. cats r very smart. they will find a good place to hide. the dog will most likely follow you. so don't worry abt grabbing him/her. if the mice and guinea pig r in a cage make sure u grab the cage. the horses wil b alright. encourage all of ur pets (and u too) everything will b alright

also keep a flashlight and a blanket and snacks for all handy. u never know how long it might last. there is nothing u can do abt the wether, so hang in there. also keep all windows open a crack. this will allow air flow so the suction isn't so great. don't worry none of u will b blown away. my bff was in this same sitch in tx too.

    GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE.

  3. This is the time right now to plan what to do for a tornado and make sure you have a NOAA weather alert radio The radios can alert you when a tornado warning is issued at night while sleeping.

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop and you should pay close attention to the weather. A watch it typically issued with in 2-3 hours of the event.

When a tornado warning is issued that means doppler radar has detected rotation in a storm or trained spotters have spotted a rotating wall cloud, funnel cloud, or a tornado on the ground.

If a tornado warning is issued for your area, do not panic. Go to a place of safety. Go to the lowest floor of your house like the basement. Once in the basement get under a sturdy piece of furniture or go into a bathroom in the basement. If no basement is available go in to an interior room such as a closet. If that is not available go in to an bathroom without windows. Stay away from outside walls and windows. Cover your head to protect from flying debris. Never try to out run a tornado in a car, if cought in a car and can not take no place of safety, lay down in a ditch and cover your head. Do not take cover under a over pass. Do not stay in mobile homes as they do not offer protection and can be flown as easily as cars can.

For local weather info. From the National Weather Service.

  4. Go to somewhere safe like the basement. Go to the bathroom and sit in the bathtub. Have a cell phone with you or any type of phone and a radio to see whats going on outside. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

  5. When theres a tornado get to a safe place. An interior room with no windows and on the first floor. Inside pets could go in the room with you. It would probably be nice to have a portable radio, flashlight, etc. For added safety you can wear a helmet and long sleeved shirt and pants to help protect from flying objects like glass. I have also heard that you can use a matress to help protect yourself. The main thing is when a tornado is coming stay away from windows and exterior walls since a tornado can send a 2 x 4 through a wall. I dont know what to do about horses.

  6. I'm not sure I need to know too!!

There's one in Maine too :(
