how long does a stress plant take to grow bud?

it's four months old and it hasn't grown any bud!

It may be a male plant, which is totally useless, except for fertilizing female plants and causing them to have seeds in the bud...like I said, totally useless. I'd give it another 2 or 3 weeks, if you don't see any type of budding activity, pull it up. It could just be a late bloomer, and depending on your location, may eventually do something. Even male plants send off shoots of little pollen pods in late summer.
