Question:

WEP Security Help?

Recently my router has been really slowing down, unlike never before. It sometimes fails completely. Today, i reset the router and tried to reset the WEP key. However ONLY ONE wep key seems to get recognized by my wireless devices, and that key does not comply with my main PC. All the other WEP keys i have tried comply with my main PC, but not with my wireless devices.

And by comply i mean that the devices connect properly. That one wep key that works, doesn't even work properly (does not connect). Please help?

  1. if you can get onto the router, login to it and set the WEP key to something new. write that key down and use it on all the other devices to login to the network. other keys wouldn't work.

^^he's right that WEP is outdated. I personally have a decent amount of experience in hacking WEP encryption and it literally takes about 5 minutes for cracking 128 bit encryption with a midrange signal and decent computer. that says something about the security it provides...

  2. wep is outdated anyways, try WPA tkip

  3. What type of router do you have? Brand and model and how old is it?

Your description of the problem does not fit any known Window's problem. Does it work without WEP? Are you using WEP 64 or 128?

While WEP is out of date , I have only seen this problem with MAC who demand WEP 128 as a very minimum. WPA would be better.
