Well, I typed in my IP address on the address bar the normal default password is set for my connection... If I create a new password whats going to have to happen? Am I not going to be able to get into that connection with another computer?

It's really confusing because it says things like do you want to register a new MAC with this connection.. Help!

I want to have my desktop have the password, as well as two of my other laptops. Thouroughly describe what I have to do. Please!

  1. I'm not quite sure I understand your situation but I'll try to explain a few things and the effects of changing them:

"Login password": what you use to log in and change settings.  This can be changed and have no effect on any computers but you need it to make changes on the router in the future.  Think of this as a key to a safe that holds your important papers.  The defaults are usually "admin", "password", or it's left blank.

"Wireless password", "Passkey", or "Encryption Key": what's used for WEP or WPA encryption.  This can be changed at will but every computer must have the same "key" as the router to connect wirelessly.  Think of this as unlocking your door to get into your house.  For WEP it must be numbers 0-9 and letters a-f and must be a certain length depending on the level of encryption.  The default is no encrytpion (anyone can connect).

"MAC Filtering": lets you specify what computers are allowed (or restircted) by their physical "MAC" address.  It's not as usefull for security because MAC addresses are easy to spoof (fake) but helps keep out the average person.  This would be like asking someone's name to let them into your house - they could lie but it works if they don't lie.  By default this feature is off (won't block anyone)

    Hope this helps!

  2. easy. google the name of your router, find the support team for the manufacture and call them, they are the one that keep record of your wep keys.

  3. You can use the WEP key for all of the computer connected to your wireless network.  You do not need a different key for each.  IF it is asking for you to register a new mac address, then you have MAC address filtering turned on.  This will only allow the MAC's that you assign it to have access to your network.  you can find the MAC address of you NIC(network interface card) by going to start ==> run ==> type cmd ==> then type ipconfig /all  ==> enter

This will display your networking information.  The MAC address will be found under the "PHysical address"
