WEP vs. WPA security?

I've just upgraded my router with a new one that uses WPA instead of my old WEP security, in simple terms, can anyone tell me what the difference is? better worse? Thanx

  1. WPA is more secure point blank (Use AES) as described above. I just wish I could convince my Stupervisor. Oh well cant win them all.

  2. Advantages of WPA over WEP are:

    1) Length of IV (initialization vector) is now 48, comparing to WEP’s 24. This gives you over 500 trillion possible key combinations.

    2) IV has much better protection with better encryption methods. This is prevention of reuse of IV keys.

    3) Master keys are never directly used.

    4) Better key management.

    5) Impressive message integrity checking.

    When you take all this into account, you can see that WPA is much better solution for your wireless network.

  3. WPA. NEVER USE WEP. Extremely Easy To Hack By A 11 year old. I hacked a wep network when i was 12, it took me 20 minutes.
