WGA’s inspirational Donald Johnson passes away, a brief look at a life that gave a lot!
Sadness hit the world of golf as the great Donald Johnson passed away this Thursday.
The Golf Hall of Famer served the Western Golf Association (WGA) for an outstanding 21 years. His contribution at the WGA is respected all over the world. His hard work and dedication lead thousands towards the fulfilment of their dreams.
Johnson was the CEO at the WGA and remained at this position till 2009 when he retired.
The most important and inspirational work comes in the form of Evan Scholars caddie program. This is indeed an initiative that got him the love and respect he deserved.
Thousands of young men and women received education under the Evans Scholars caddie program. This speaks volumes about the man and his life.
The current CEO and president of the WGA, John Kaczkowski, holds Johnson in high regards and remembers him as someone who absolutely loved the game of golf.
“Don enjoyed a lifelong love of, and respect for, the game of golf, he was dedicated to giving back to the game through his work with our scholarships and championships, and he clearly has succeeded” said the current CEO and president of WGA.
Johnson remained intact in the difficult years of the WGA. He remained strong and focused on how to get the WGA out of the financial trouble it once saw.
It was a time when the WGA was facing serious financial troubles when Johnson took over the matter and created a $45 million endowment. Not only this, he also gave a debt-free owner-ship of 14 Evans Scholars houses which is indeed impressive and inspiring.
“Don’s focus on building a firm financial base for our Evans Scholars program afforded thousands of young men and women the opportunity to earn their college degrees on his watch, in the face of ever-increasing tuition costs, we continued to provide full
funding for more than 800 Evans Scholarships annually. That is truly a noteworthy achievement” said Kaczkowski.
Donald Johnson was one of the most inspirational personality in the world of golf. His life and his work gave a lot to the common people. His work will always be remembered in golden words. Good bye Donald Johnson.
