  1. Listen to Candace :D  You don't want a junky 40gb system that can't play PS2/PSX games AT ALL!  At least the 80gb ps3 can play them... but take into consideration the fact that non-ps3 games are only software emulated...

If you want ps3 gaming for older discs at the hardware level, get one of the older 60gb PS3's.  Silly sony, trying to save money again.  That price for a 40gb system is a horrible rip-off.  Check on ebay if you want an older 60gb version and at a discount.  From what I hear the new 80gb units are strong enough that you won't notice a real slowdown from emulating the older ps2 games...

    *EDIT*

It's obvious that MechanicalApe needs to get with the year 2007/2008.  The 40gb PS3s are horribly inferior, and will NOT play older PS games.  Buddy, don't bash if you've got nothing but trash to back you up.  Candace was 100% correct.  Yay for female gamers :D

The older 20gb unit was still top of the line at the time--$100 less than the astronomically priced 60gb version.  Then they phased out the 20gb model and replaced with with a dumbed-down 40gb model which wasn't good for anything but ps3 gaming--the lasers couldn't read the older discs.  They kicked that model out the door real fast when fans refused to buy them.

I'd say the deal depended on what was included in the blockbuster pack--but no game combo is worth the cost of not being able to play classic playstation games.  Give it 6 months and all those new games will be $20 on ebay.  I'd rather have a PS2 than a PS3 40gb unit--I have a TON of PS1/PS2 RPGs :D

I think mechanicalape read my post, deleted his comment >.>

  2. Wait for the 80GB for sure. Not only are you getting more storage, you're also getting it for 100$ cheaper. Not only that but the 40GB version doesn't play PS2 games.

  3. 80 GB it is twice the space trust me with all the good games coming out 40 GB wont cut it. :-)
