I PLAYED AUSSIE RULES for 35 odd years i guess, not in the big league though, our big league, the AFL, gets huge crowds, the grand final get well over 100,000 thousand, most games get around 30,000 and 75000 per week, there are 8 games a weekend, i know the canadians love their hockey, but what sort of crowds do say the bc lions pull weekly, and your big final, just interested, i visited canada twice, went to the hockey but never thought about grid iron. would of liked to go as we went to LA and watched the grid iron there. went to a baseball game in vancouver too.

thanks to any one who takes time to answer.

  1. Most teams don't sell out for regular season games.  BC, Edmonton, and Toronto play in the largest stadiums (55,000 to 60,000 available seats) but they usually play in front of less than 35,000 fans.

Montreal plays in the smallest stadium at 20,202, but they have sold out there for over 70 straight games. The stadium will be renovated starting fall '08 and I think 7 or 8 thousand seats will be added.  The city has a larger stadium, Olympic Stadium (aka the Big O and Big Owe), and the team usually plays one game per year (their last home game) as "fan appreciation day" and they'll get anywhere from 45,000 to 55,000 fans.  The team used to play all regular season games there, but the fans really don't like the place and attendance was usually only around 10,000.

The largest ever attendance for a regular season CFL game was 69,093 at the Big O in Montreal and the largest ever attendance for a Grey Cup game was the same year and also at the Big O, 68,318.

You are quite correct about hockey. The Montreal Canadiens play at the Bell Centre, which has a capacity of 21,273 and they sell out every game.

  2. their not big cords but their passionate.

  3. depends on size of stadium in toronto its over 40000 but varies acroos the country.

  4. Crowds vary from 20 thousand to 50 thousand spectators, with an average of about 30-35 thousand.  They usually try to play the Grey Cup in an arena with a large seating capacity, in order to seat 50-60 thousand people.

  5. Here is a link to the 2007 CFL schedule.  The number on the far right is the attendance for that game.
