Question:

WHAT ARE THESE STARTUP PROGRAMS???

I'm a frustrated boy trying to fix his home's family computer

I'm in the process of trying to first, remove unnecessary programs at startup. The most annoying are these HP startup programs, which I'm not sure if I can remove them. I've already searched the internet, but haven't gotten info on startup programs.

They're called:

hpsysdrv

hphupd05

hphmon05

HPWuSchd2

hpcmpmgr ********************** Would love info on this program

Also, I hope most people have Yahoo browsers so I'm asking whether the antivirus programs are necessary at startup and ESPECIALLY SBC Self Support Tool. That one is a bugger, taking forever to start.

*I already have Kapersky and Spydoctor, so I don't think I need yahoo antivrus.

Help!!! WRITE ANYTHING USEFUL PLEASE

  1. HP printer programs that run in background.  None are necessary.

You can use a search engine to find your love.

Search engines can find all sorts of stuff, you might want to try one.

  2. hpsysdrv - Used by HP to keep the number of recoveries issued by Microsoft Office Suite.  This is a user-specified process, which means it is up to the user if they want it disabled, it will do no harm.

hphupd05 - Used by HP Photosmart, you should keep this process open if you constantly use that HP printer, because this process updates the program/drivers for your printer.  However, if you do not use an HP printer, this can be disabled.

hphmon05 - Used by HP Photosmart, you should keep this process open if you use the flash card in your HP printer, usually HP printers have a 6-in-1 or 9-in-1 USB flash card attachment, if you do not use this, this too can be disabled.

HPWuSchd2 - This checks for HP updates for your printer, usually regarding drivers, and can sometimes take up a little too much memory usage, this one I highly recommend disabling, you can always go to HP's website and navigate to their driver's page and download them manually.

hpcmpmgr - This is HPWuschd2 and hphupd05's counterpart.  It checks periodically for updates to your driver, and I know first hand that this process can slow the booting up/down of the computer.  This too can be disabled, it is a user specified process.

  3. All of those seem to be related to HP products.  go to google and just search all of those separately and it should bring up some sites that let you know exactly what each of them are.
