  1. The solstice is midsummers day not the start.  There are two official start dates for summer, the one I go with is the first of May which is Mayday and the old pagan festival of Bealtaine.  May the first be with you.

  2. What!! Summer in England??? <fainting>

  3. If you want to know what one day this year will be hot and dry, then your guess is as good as anybody's

The official start date for summer is June 21st, that is a Saturday this year

  4. a day or two in may, a day or two in june, a day or 3 in july, and or 3 in august and a day in september

  5. 28 july. i'm on a course that day.

  6. The summer solstice in the northern hemisphere occurs at:

    20 June 23:59 (GMT).

This is when summer officially begins in this hemisphere. It is the point in the Earth's orbit about the sun when the northern hemisphere is fully tilted toward the sun. In the southern hemisphere it will be the winter solstice and will be the start of winter.

We think of the summer solstice as a day though it is actually a point in time.

  7. I hope you manage to catch it when it does fall.  I'm bound to be working on the day it falls in Scotland so I'll probably miss it.

  8. Well; it was on a Wednesday last year - and as this year is a leap year - forcasters are saying it will be on a Friday this year... but they HAVE been wrong before... So it might just be on a Wednesday again!
