  7. I don't know.  But I was wondering a similar thing the other day...If there was a ship with female only crew and female only passengers, and the ship started to sink...would they shout WOMAN the lifeboats?

  8. If people were better educated then this question need not be asked. "Man" comes from the German for person , plural "mensch", while "mann" means male adult, plural "maenner".

Political correctness has produced a lot of stupid decisions by those who fall under its spell.

For example, a feminist woman, deeply affected by political correctness, saw a heavy object heading towards an unaware man, so she called out a warning . "Drake!" The man died of his injuries.

  9. There she goes...

  10. woman over board?

  11. full speed ahead?

  12. person overboard ?

    women overboard

    man overboard

  13. Freedom at last

  14. It really depends upon who the woman is. I have been sailing since I was about five I think. If it has been possible to identify the gender of the person who has left ship then it would be quite proper to say 'Man' or 'Woman'. If you can identify the person by name, irrespective of gender, then it would be reasonable to shout "Edith/Eddie overboard".

If you are the only person who has seen the particular person go over the side then it may well be that your relationship to that person, and to your moral make-up, will determine whether you shout at all. Might depend, in fact, on the Insurance position.

You might shout, for instance, "Our Betty overboard", if you are able to be so exact.

In the new regulations for Tintoland Sailing and Motor Boating Club, situated just outside Cheshiretown on Sea, the indication is given that

one should shout, "Person Overboard". Mind you it could be a dog that's gone over, which opens a whole new can of worms.
