  2. Usually in an advertising agency they call it the creative team or creative department where the copywriter and an art director work in tandem to create the ads for the client.

The copywriter has the responsibility to write the ads,  the script for TV and radio commercials, for the headlines and text of print ads in newspaper and magazines, and for the message that appears on the billboards, etc.

The art director handles the visual side of the ad.

I do suggest you read Careers in Advertising by S. William Pattis. The book covers the entire advertising industry and career possibilities that are available. It also gives you helpful tools to achieve your career goals. Another book that I suggest is Pick Me : Breaking Into Advertising and Staying There by Nancy Vonk. You can check you local library if they have them or you can order them used at amazon.com

I wish I could tell you what direction to take to your career goal, but it really varies by situation. I think the key to get your first job in this field is through internships. So try to get an internship in an advertising agency in the department you would like to be in in the future.

    Good luck!
