  1. Liston in 1962 Wouldve destroyed the Rock easily!!!! If Ali did not come on the scene Liston might have been champ for a long long time. Plus how do you know if he stayed active he would not have lost to someone else. Maybe even Nino Valdes.

  2. marciano would of been kod by sonny liston in 1962 rocky marciano wasnt a fool he knew when to leave the sport and he stayed retired  not many guys were as smart as him in that department  if he were younger i believe he might of given liston a descent fight but he never faced a guy other than louis WHO WAS OLD who hit like liston marciano got hit too much so i think liston would of kod him because of this

  3. In 1962 although neither Rocky or Sonny were  youngsters, Rocky was just too old for Sonny.

But a 1953  Rocky would have murdered a 1952 Liston.

  4. Good question..this matchup is a tough one to analyze..I think that an older Marciano would have had his hands full with Liston because of Listons incredible reach, power, and size advantages..in his prime I think Marciano would have come out on top

  5. Marciano's style relied heavily on stamina and endurance as well as the abilty to absorb punches, fighters with that kind of style would not be able to last that long, he would have been able to defeat patterson and johansson (not as easily as some think though) and perhaps held the title for a while but he would have lost it against Liston, sonny liston would have been in his physical prime while marciano would have been in decline (taking that much punishement takes its toll in the ring after a while), Liston hit much harder than marciano (marciano relied on his stamina to gain knock out by constantly hitting his opponents) and both of them had a tendency to come forward and fight without backing and this would have been a bad deal for Marciano, because Liston hit a lot harder and was actually quite accurate, this would have turned out into a slugfest and probably ended in a victory for liston due to cuts on marciano's face, moreover marciano never faced a tough prime opponent like liston in his time as champion (the big names he faced were all old and had over 200 fights between them the only major prime opponents he faced were la starza and harry matthews, hardly hall of fame material), he would have probably retired after a liston and called it a day.

  6. Toughguy knows a lot more about Marciano than U non-believers do. Any fool should know that a time comes when the gig is up. Marciano realized this because he gave boxing his very soul and he was no longer satisfied with the system so he decided it was time to retire. What he had put into boxing he decided no longer to invest-HIS SOUL.

  7. This is an interesting question.  When Rocky retired in 1956, he quit because of some disagreements with his manager who Rocky said owed him money, a bad back, and pressure from his wife to quit.  Rocky had a total of 6 title defenses over his 4 years as Heavyweight champion and of course undefeated.  Even though Rocky was harder to hit than say Joe Frazier, his swarming style caused him to get hit more often even though not always cleanly so I cannot see Rocky hanging around for 19 more title defenses or until 1962.  At tops Rocky may have been able to fight maybe 4 more years or until about 1959.  If he had fought Liston around that time frame, he would win in my opinion but would have never made it long enough to beat Louis record of 25 title defenses.  I just don't believe Rocky's style as tough as he was, would have allowed him to fight another 7 years and 19 more fights which would have put him at 68 fights!
