It's an examiniation board.  I think they specialise in more hands on work though - such as work based learning.  Not so much things that you do in a classroom.

It used to be,if you worked as an apprentice

when working such as a heavy goods mechanic

for five years learning your trade and attending

college twice a week,you were awarded a

City and Guilds certificate as a sign that you

are fully qualified in your trade and then you

were put on full wages. my son passed at

twenty one yrs old.

An awarding body - they relate to examinations and can 'award' 'clarify' 'give' 'ratify' the exam.
